COMTRUST ACADEMY OF RESEARCH AND TRAINING is a subsidiary unit of Comtrust Charitable Trust Eye Hospital, Kozhikode. Comtrust Charitable Trust Eye Hospital was established in 1999 to provide quality eye care to the people of Malabar and is owned by the Comtrust Charitable Trust, a registered Public Charitable Trust of repute working from Calicut city for last many years. The Academy was started in 2004 with the sole aim of training students and conducting research using the facilities available at the Hospital. With this aim, certain academic courses were planned. The Hospital is well equipped with sophisticated modern equipment and has a team of highly qualified doctors and dedicated paramedical staff. It runs Speciality clinics in Cataract, Retina, Glaucoma, Uvea, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Squint and Contact Lens. Students will thus be exposed to all aspects of ophthalmic practice and come out as assets to the Society.

COURSES/TRAINING PROGRAMMES OFFERED:

DIPLOMA IN OPHTHALMIC ASSISTANCE (DOA): 2 year Paramedical Diploma course for students who have passed Pre-Degree/ Plus two Examinations, approved by Directorate of Medical Education, Govt. of Kerala - Para Medical Council, Thiruvananthapuram. Total seats: 15 (Management) + 15 (Govt.Merit).

DIPLOMATE IN NATIONAL BOARD (DNB): PG course for Doctors - 2 years course for Post DO candidates and 3 years course for Post MBBS candidates, approved by National Board of Examinations, New Delhi. Total seats: 2 + 2.

  • Paediatric Ophthalmology

Training Programme:

  • Optical Lens Fitting & Dispensing
  • Clinical Experience in Ophthalmology for Nursing students (B. Sc. Nsg/GNM)
  • Internship Programme for B. Sc. (Optometry) students
  • Phaco Training Centre in association with Alcon Laboratories (India) Pvt. Ltd.

Observership Programme:

MS (Ophth) students from outside Institutions.

Regular in house training programmes are conducted for enhancing skill levels of Doctors, Paramedical and other categories of staff to keep them abreast with the latest developments occurring in the field of Eye Care Equipment and procedures.
